As we step into the new month of October, a month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and its effects, it is crucial to understand its correlation to menstruation cycles.
It is known that a growth of estrogen is directly linked to a higher risk of breast cancer; so, The earlier a woman starts having periods, the longer her breast tissue is exposed to estrogens released during the menstrual cycle. This means a greater lifetime exposure to estrogen. These reactions towards estrogen and progesterone can affect the risk of menstrual cycles, but the age these cycles occur is mostly based on lifestyle, location, and much more. Breast cancer disproportionately impacts women, and while awareness campaigns focus on prevention, detection, and treatment, we cannot ignore the challenges that women face with their menstrual health. In addition, women with breast cancer mostly experience irregular bleeding and abnormal cycles, regarding the periods in which they are distanced. It is always important to stay healthy and keep good track of your diet and lifestyle, as they affect your life heavily. Although breast cancer cannot be prevented entirely, it is important to take care of yourself to avoid these diseases as much as you can.
